1. Who we are
- Name: xperiy
- Contact: support@xperiy.com
- We will provide our address and the name of our representative without delay on request.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following information to provide the Service.
(1) Location
We use your device's location to work out how far you are from your destination. On iOS we ask for "Always" permission so the app can keep watching with the screen off. On Android the app works with "While using the app" permission, and shows an ongoing notification while it watches your location.
Your current location while the app is watching is processed on your device and is not sent to our servers. However, when you search for a station or stop, the area around your current location is sent to the map service as part of the search (see (4)).
We store the following on our servers, linked to your account:
- Destinations you save as favourites (name, address, latitude and longitude) and their wake-up distance
- Trip records (one each time you arrive at or miss your destination: the destination's name, latitude and longitude, the wake-up distance, the outcome, and the start and end time)
You can change location permission at any time in your device settings. Without location permission the app cannot watch your trip. On iOS, without "Always" permission it cannot keep watching once the screen is off.
(2) Account information
When you finish setting up the app, we automatically create an anonymous account (a user identifier) that needs no email address.
If you choose to link an Apple or Google account (Google only on Android), that account's identifier and the email address, name and profile photo URL it provides are stored in Firebase Authentication to manage your account. We do not store them in our own database. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email", the email address is a relay address.
(3) App data
We store your settings (wake-up style, wake-up distance, vibration and notification settings, etc.), favourites, trip records, streaks calculated from your trip records, display language, the dates your account was created and updated, and your plan type (currently everyone is on the free plan) on our servers, linked to your account. This happens even if you have not linked an Apple or Google account.
(4) Search and maps
Searching for stations and stops and showing maps uses Apple MapKit on iOS, and Google Maps (Google Maps SDK) with the device's built-in location search on Android. The search terms you enter, an area of about 50 km around your current location, the positions you pick on the map and the information needed to display maps are sent to Apple on iOS and to Google on Android.
On Android, if you open directions back after missing your stop, the destination's latitude and longitude are passed to Google Maps (or your browser).
(5) Contact form
The email address, message and display language you submit through the contact form on our website, together with your IP address and browser information (User-Agent) at the time of sending.
(6) Usage and error information
On both iOS and Android we use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to collect automatically recorded usage such as app opens and sessions, app instance IDs, device model, OS and app versions, approximate region inferred from IP address, and crash information. None of this includes your location or destination names.
On Android, Firebase Analytics collects the Android advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in your device settings. On iOS we do not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA).
(7) Advertising (if we show ads)
The Service may show ads through Google AdMob. If it does, advertising identifiers, device information, IP address and ad view and tap information are sent to Google to deliver and measure ads.
On iOS we use the advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow it through App Tracking Transparency. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland we obtain your consent in advance as the law requires.
(8) Purchases (if we offer paid plans)
Paid plans are purchased through the App Store or Google Play, and we never receive payment details such as card numbers. To confirm your purchase we receive the plan type, purchase date, expiry date and transaction identifiers.
(9) Information stored on your device
Your settings, favourites, streaks, recent searches (up to 10, from adding favourites), the trip in progress (for up to 6 hours) and a copy of data used for syncing are stored on your device. Recent searches are never sent to our servers. When you sign out or delete your account, these are erased from your device, except for the copy of data used for syncing.
While the app is watching, your destination's name and the distance remaining are shown in lock screen notifications (and in a Live Activity on iOS).
3. How we use information
- To provide the Service (distance checks, alarms and notifications, and saving and syncing settings, favourites, trip records and streaks)
- To manage your account and carry your data over, for example when you change devices
- To respond to enquiries and send important notices
- To investigate problems, understand usage, prevent misuse, keep the Service secure and improve it
- To show and measure ads (if we show ads)
- To provide paid plans and confirm purchases (if we offer them)
- To deal with breaches of our Terms of Service and comply with the law
4. Sharing and third-party services
We do not share personal information with third parties without your consent, except where the law requires or permits it.
The Service uses the following third-party services, which send and store information for the purposes described. Where we entrust information to them, we supervise them as needed to ensure it is handled properly.
- Google LLC: Firebase Authentication (account management), Cloud Firestore and Cloud Functions (data storage and aggregation, Tokyo region), Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (usage and crash analysis, iOS and Android), Google Sign-In, Google Maps Platform (maps on Android), Google Play services (location and location search on Android), Gmail (contact notifications), Google Play (Android distribution, update checks and purchases), Google AdMob (if we show ads). Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- Apple Inc.: Sign in with Apple, MapKit (search and maps on iOS), App Store (distribution, update checks at launch and purchases). Privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
5. International transfers
The services above may process information on servers in the United States and other countries. Google LLC and Apple Inc. are US companies that maintain systems meeting the standards set by Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
Information about personal data protection systems in other countries is available on the website of Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission (https://www.ppc.go.jp/ ).
6. How long we keep information
- Information linked to your account, including trip records: until you delete your account. Trip records have no separate expiry
- Contact form information: deleted within 3 years of resolving your enquiry
- Usage and error information: kept for the retention periods of Google's Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics
- Information stored on your device: until you delete the app, sign out or delete your account
Information on your device may be included in device backups to iCloud or a computer, and in Android backups or data transfers when you change devices.
For technical reasons such as backups, some information may remain in our systems for a limited time after deletion.
7. Deleting your data and your rights
You can delete the data stored on our servers as follows. Deletion cannot be undone.
- If you have linked an Apple or Google account: "Delete account" on the Account screen deletes your account and the settings, favourites, trip records and streaks stored on our servers
- If you have not linked an account: signing out deletes your account and server data in the same way
- If you sign out while an account is linked, your server data is not deleted and is restored when you sign in again
Each of these actions also erases the settings, favourites, streaks, recent searches and trip in progress stored on your device. The copy of data used for syncing is erased when you delete the app.
On iOS, if you have linked Apple, you will be asked to sign in with Apple before your account is deleted, and the link with Apple is removed (its token is revoked). If you have linked Google, the connection with Google is also removed. On Android, you can remove the link in your Google Account settings.
If deletion does not work, or to request notification of purposes, disclosure, correction, addition or deletion, suspension of use or erasure, suspension of third-party provision, or disclosure of records of third-party provision of your retained personal data, email support@xperiy.com. We will verify your identity and respond without delay as the law requires.
If you live in the European Economic Area, the UK, California or another region with similar laws, you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability under local law, and you may complain to a supervisory authority. We do not sell personal information.
8. Security
We take the following measures to protect personal information.
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS / TLS)
- Access rules that let only your own account read and write your data on our servers
- Streaks are updated only on the server side and trip records cannot be changed afterwards, to prevent tampering
- Limiting who handles information and managing credentials properly
9. Children
The Service is not designed for children. If you are a minor, please use it with a parent's or guardian's consent. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when laws change or the Service changes, including when we introduce ads or paid plans. We will announce changes on this page, and important changes also in the app or by other appropriate means. We will obtain your consent where the law requires.
